Stats:
Adam Rotter:
- They needed the two points and they found a way to get one and then the extra point in OT.
- This was a mess of a game from both teams with mistakes all over the place and many of them leading to goals. Neither side was sharp and it seemed like the team that made the last mistake was going to lose.
- That seemed like it was going to be Minnesota because they gave the Rangers three PP chances in the last ten minutes of the third. It was a moment where the PP could come through and…not only did it not, each subsequent PP was worse than one before it.
- The Rangers did have the puck for a lot of the game, especially early, but the mistakes, from both sides, were so glaring that it kind of takes away from that. If they can clean up some of the mistakes and still play the way they did then they should be in a position to win most games.
- Artemi Panarin continues to produce at a high level. He hit 80 points on the season but the Rangers probably need him getting close to 90 to make the playoffs. They could also use more consistent offense from the rest of the top-six and top-nine.
- Gabriel Perreault had some nice moments, some nice passes and started shooting more as the game went on. He got a real opportunity tonight in the top-six and second PP unit and hopefully that continues.
- Will Cuylle is a solid choice for the Steven McDonald winner. He’s had a good season and he plays a tough, physical game. He plays the type of game that could allow him to be a multiple time winner.
- They needed the two points to keep pace with Montreal as the Habs pulled out a crazy win yesterday against Florida. They are tied in points but Montreal has one game in hand. If they can stay tied then it works for the Rangers since they have the tiebreaker, but there is also Columbus lurking with two games in hand and only two points behind.
- Next up are the Devils on Saturday.
