  • There isn’t much to say other than that if Igor Shesterkin is out, and based on him not being able to put any weight on his leg when he was helped off the ice, the Rangers are trouble. It brought up bad memories of Mike Richter’s skate hitting the post against Chicago in Feb 2001 that saw him tear his ACL. We’ll see what it ends up being with Shesterkin, but it did not look good.
  • Joonas Korpisalo, who was acquired to be Shesterkin’s backup is injured and as of yesterday hasn’t begun skating yet. So now the Rangers are possibly handing over the crease to Dylan Garand. Again, the Rangers are incredibly fortunate that Garand wasn’t claimed on waivers. Spencer Martin in Hartford is also hurt so the Rangers goaltending depth is incredibly thin. And while Jonathan Quick has joined the organization as Director of Goaltending Development, I don’t see him coming out of retirement.
  • I do believe in Dylan Garand, but it’s a lot to ask of someone who was slated to be third string to now be the number one for at least a little while. He did play well, especially coming in cold, and was only beaten after Cole Beaudoin turned the puck over around the slot to a wide open Boone Jenner.
  • The loss of the game is one thing but the potential loss of Shesterkin overshadows everything.
  • I thought the Rangers played fine, they certainly didn’t fold after Shesterkin got hurt. They didn’t get a ton of great chances and when it seemed like they were going to, the Capitals blocked the shot.
  • The Rangers play the Canucks on Sunday and my guess is that we’ll know by then what is going on with Shesterkin.
