Gerard Gallant met with the media following the loss to Vancouver and said (MSG, NYR):
- Did Demko frustrate them, “We had 2-3 PPs in the first and he made some good saves, key saves and I think our team played a lot better once we scored a goal. It was a little late in the game, but there is no doubt that he made some key saves in the first period.”
- On the second period, “5-on-5 we weren’t playing, we looked tired, sluggish on the ice, we just weren’t playing our game like we did the past two games, but the PP was jumping and had some chances and Demko made some key saves at key times in the first.”
- On not finishing the scoring chances, “just a little execution. Like the one Mika doesn’t put in, the backdoor there, the tap in that went by the net, like the PP, he gets those, Kreider gets those usually. It just happens, execution, we looked a little tired like I said. Frustrating that they don’t go, but, again, I thought the first was an OK period and we are behind 2-0 and it would have been nice to score one of those goals because we probably would have got some energy.”
- On Georgiev, “That is on us, too. It’s been a month….I was more disappointed with some of our backchecks than Georgie, to be honest. We didn’t work hard enough on a couple of their goals coming back and that hurt us in our zone and I always say that when you don’t work hard coming back, that is a sign of a team and good things don’t happen. When you bust your ass backchecking good things happen and when you don’t, it goes to the of the net.”
- On Lafreniere, “he scored a nice goal, made some real good plays, I liked his game, definitely.”
