6PM: Gerard Gallant said of losing Hunt on waivers, “That is part of the business and the game. There wasn’t a roster spot at the time and Colorado had some injuries and called him up. Good for Hunt, he’s going to stay in the NHL and get an opportunity there. We’re gonna miss him, I liked him, he did a good job for us over the last year, good, solid kid.” (NYR)

Adam Rotter: Hunt was likely going to Hartford, so the Rangers don’t lose anyone off their roster, but they do lose a potential depth piece and call up. The Rangers still have Julien Gauthier and Jonny Brodzinski as potential call ups that played last season as well as newcomer Gustav Rydahl who had an impressive training camp. Will Cuylle is also in Hartford and Bobby Trivigno, who may be a similarish player, in style, to Hunt. I could see either of them as potential options, but my guess is that the Rangers preference would be to see them play at least half a season in Hartford before being called up.
Hunt was what he was. He had some moments with Artemi Panarin and Ryan Strome last season, but he was a fourth liner that was displaced when the Rangers got healthy and brought in Andrew Copp, Frank Vatrano and especially Tyler Motte. He’s a forechecker, physical and someone that Gerard Gallant trusted to play up and down the lineup. Will the Rangers miss him? Probably not all that much unless they start to get decimated by injury, but if that happens there will be bigger problems than missing Dryden Hunt.
