Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • The Rangers were not at their best tonight. They fired 49 shots and they certainly had the chances late and in OT to ‘find a way to win” tonight, but they could only manage to “find a way” to get one point.
  • The Montreal goalie, Montembeault, was outstanding tonight. He made a bunch of Grade A saves while the Rangers were pushing to tie it and when they did tie it. He made great saves for the Habs in OT and made a great recovery save to stop Zibanejad’s shootout attempt.
  • They fell behind 3-0 with some sloppy play, but they are better than Montreal and with the amount of shots they were getting, I expected that they would tie it and likely win the game. They were only able to tie it and come away with one point, but only because of how Montembeault played. It would have been nice to come all the way back and continue to show that they can win in different ways, but it may be better for them to only get the one point and to refocus and reset on what they need to do better.
  • It’s a shame Alexis Lafreniere got nothing on the scoresheet since he was buzzing all night. Will Cuylle was also buzzing and seemed to be all over the ice. Brennan Othmann didn’t get much time as Peter Laviolette seemed to run three lines more consistently as they looekd to come back.
  • The Canucks come to MSG on Monday.
