Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • That was a much better overall game than Tuesday against the Islanders. The Rangers didn’t have their full lineup, but they came out with a strong first period and then a solid rest of the game.
  • This was the best Kaapo Kakko has looked. He looked more aggressive and looking to shoot. He didn’t score, but seven shots and nine total attempts are a good sign.
  • Brennan Othmann also had his best game and it sure would be interesting to see what would have happened if the Rangers didn’t bring Reilly Smith in. Othmann is almost certainly going to start the season in Hartford, but will be the first call up if someone in the top-nine gets injured. He definitely seems close and may even be ready to be a regular contributor, but the spot isn’t there right now.
  • Connor Mackey as Ryan Lindgren’s replacement next to Adam Fox is likely trying to replicate a lot of Lindgren’s skill-set. He’s certainly not afraid to fight or get into things.
  • I’ve expected Sam Carrick to get the spot on the fourth line replacing Barclay Goodrow, but Jonny Brodzinski is certainly getting a look at that spot. They both might make the team and then rotate who goes between Jimmy Vesey and Matt Rempe.
