2:02PM: Jacob Trouba was NOT placed on waivers today. (Friedman)

12:14PM: Darren Dreger tweets Columbus, Detroit and Anaheim are among the teams “circling” around Trouba.

10:50AM: Emily Kaplan says that some of the teams the Rangers have talked to include Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo and Columbus.

10:07AM: Larry Brooks tweets that Drury has spoken multiple times with Trouba this week, both as a group and one-on-one and that he did so again this morning.

10:05AM: Elliotte Friedman says that the Rangers have multiple options for Trouba and that the Rangers have “indicated” that they will waive him if he doesn’t accept a trade. He mentioned Columbus as one possibility.

9:53AM: Pierre LeBrun says that the Rangers have “multiple” deals on the table for Trouba but that they all need him to waive his no-trade clause. He says that Trouba may have taken the night to sleep on it and could decide whether one of those trades today.

LeBrun says that the threat of waivers may also be there if Trouba doesn’t agree to one of those trades.

9:30AM: Larry Brooks tweets that Jacob Trouba will not be on the ice today for the Rangers and will not play tonight against Pittsburgh for “purposes of roster management.”

Arthur Staple and Renaud Lavoie both mention that Trouba could be placed on waivers today.

Adam Rotter: We’ve been waiting since Monday to see what would happen before tonight’s game and it looked like nothing was going to happen and that the Rangers would see if their time off between games would get them going. Obviously Chris Drury didn’t want that and one way or another it looks like Jacob Trouba’s time with the Rangers is over.

Waivers always seemed like a possibility for Trouba but it also sort of felt like the last resort or nuclear option to put your captain on waivers. The Rangers tried to move Trouba over the summer and he, whether directly or indirectly, blocked that. It seemed like everyone put it behind them coming into the season but Trouba has looked like a shell of himself at times. Whether that is just where his game is or it’s by design, to play poorly and float out that he won’t be happy anywhere but New York, so that no one would trade for him, Chris Drury is making a big move to try and save the Rangers season.

It seems like the Rangers are trying to work with Trouba on a place he’d agree to before taking the nuclear option and putting him on waivers where he would have no control and a team like Anaheim, Columbus, Calgary, Utah, Montreal and LA could claim him without needing to make any other move. Those teams fit just from a salary cap space point of view and doesn’t factor in roster construction, but the point is that Trouba would have some control if a trade is made and zero control if waivers are used.
