Rangers lose wild one to Columbus 7-5 (What David Quinn said after the game)

David Quinn spoke on MSG and said:

  • On the game, “they won every 1 on 1 battle, it was unbelievable. Every time we went into a corner they came away with the puck, our lack of ability to be physical and fish for pucks, it looked like we had never gone over d-zone coverage.”
  • On faceoffs, “they threw pucks back to their D, I’ve never been part of a game where we have been dominated in faceoffs by that magnitude, it’s why they had the puck all night. Not a lot of good tonight.”
  • On battle level and faceoffs, “our guys on the flanks didn’t help at all, that is a team that competes hard on pucks and test your mettle and we failed miserably tonight, miserably. Our lack of determination in 1 on 1 battles, fishing for pucks, you do that in this league and you get your asses handed to you.”
  • “we are going to watch this and learn from this. We have zero chance if we have 20 guys in uniform not willing to compete over pucks and get into people and have some snarl to the game.”
  • On effort, “I don’t think we are physical enough, I don’t think we have enough grit when it comes to 1 on 1 battles. We have survived it, addressed it, talked about it this morning, I wish we could have a practice where I could throw pucks into a corner and see who comes out with it. We will keep working at it in every way we can. We are going to get after it.”
  • “you are gonna lose hockey games but you better want to battle somebody. It’s just ridiculous. Three games where we feel pretty good about our effort and compete and then we come out and do that? It’s a freakin’ joke.”

Chris Kreider on MSG said that the Rangers didn’t do well on faceoff plays and that penalties are a “recurring theme.”

On what the Rangers need to do better, Kreider said “moving are feet, play through people…you can’t just show up and expect results.”

Brady Skjei said that the Rangers were chasing pucks, not playing through guys or picking up sticks and there is a bit of frustration giving up 7 after playing well defensively on Saturday. (MSG)
