Benoit Allaire, who this season had the title of “Head Goaltending Coach and Director of New York Rangers Goaltending, will remain as the team’s Director of Goaltending but will step back from his role as Goaltending Coach. (NY Post)
Allaire will still work with the goalies in the Rangers system and is expected to be part of the search for his day-to-day coaching replacement.
From the Rangers Media Guide this season: “‘Allaire oversees the development of goaltenders at all levels throughout the organization, including at the American Hockey League (AHL) level and ECHL level. He continues to work with the Rangers’ coaching staff
as Head Goaltending Coach. ”
The Rangers have had Jean-Ian Filiatrault as a “Goaltending Consultant” for the past three seasons and the Rangers Media Guide described his role as “works with Head Goaltending Coach & Director of New York Rangers Goaltending Benoit Allaire, assisting in the development of Rangers goaltending prospects throughout the organization, including in Europe and at the junior level and collegiate level.”
Jeff Malcolm has been the goalie coach in Hartford for the past three seasons and prior to that he was the team’s Goaltending Consultant. The Rangers Media Guide described his role as goalie consultant as “In his role as Goaltending Consultant, he assisted in the on-ice and off-ice development of goaltenders throughout the Rangers organization, including goaltenders with the Wolf Pack, and he also worked with the Rangers front office in evaluating goaltenders at both the amateur level and professional level.”
Adam Rotter: Outside of playing at MSG and the colors of the uniform, Benoit Allaire has been a true constant for the Rangers since joining the team 20 years ago. He has stayed on through many coaching changes, three GMs and three Presidents. I don’t know how to truly quantify what he has meant to this team. Obviously, he had an enormous role in Henrik Lundqvist and now Igor Shesterkin’s success, but I think what may be more impressive is all the backup goalies the Rangers have had and had success with. He helped take Cam Talbot and Alex Georgiev from being minor prospects into regular NHL goalies and then starting goalies for other teams. He helped extend Jonathan Quick’s career and he’s just had an enormous role in making sure that the Rangers were always set at the most important position.
