Stats:

David Quinn spoke after the game and said (NYR Game Notes):

  • On the game, “I certainly liked our intentions much better, it was night and day from a defensive standpoint, our intentions, support, structure. It’s just disappointing, we had two teams that looked like they played last night and unfortunately we were the first team to blink, at 59 minutes. Disappointing.”
  • On the line combos, “I think Panarin had a great first period and I’d give him and Mika is 4-5 games into it and they were clicking a little bit early and Strome was a little under the weather tonight, I wanted to put those three together, I don’t think we’ve done that all year. I wanted to get Kreider up with Strome and Fast as the game was going on. When we made the lines this morning we knew that some of the things might happen, just trying to light a spark under us. Like I said, with Mika out as long as he was, just trying to find the right combinations.”
  • On Kakko with Mika and Panarin, “I’d like to give them more of an opportunity. I thought they were ok, didn’t have as many chances as we would have liked but neither did either team or either line. It was one of those nights.”
  • On the young defensemen, the end of the game and a learning curve, “I think that is a big piece of it, they were more seasoned and have more experience than we have. When you have that type of time we might try to force a play which has been a problem for us, and that is kind of what happened at the end, but these guys are in their early 20s and late teens, playing this amount of games in this short of time might be catching up to some of them but that is the ebbs and flows of a hockey season and young players.”
  • On Marc Staal, “I thought he was solid, I liked his game.”
  • On MTL’s first goal, “It was a bad line change.”
  • Will you bring anyone out west, “I don’t think so.”
