As a condition of the Andrew Copp trade, the Winnipeg Jets now own the Rangers 2022 First Round pick.
The Rangers traded two conditional second-round picks, Morgan Barron and a fifth-round pick in 2023.
The first conditional second-round pick (the Rangers own pick) was to turn into the Rangers 2022 First Round pick if the Rangers reached the Conference Finals and Copp played in 50% of the games.
The other conditional second-round pick still gives Winnipeg the choice of choosing the St. Louis Blues second-round pick in 2022 (which the Rangers own from the Pavel Buchnevich trade) or the Rangers 2023 Second Round pick.
Adam Rotter: The Rangers will happily send their first-round pick to Winnipeg, and get their own second-round pick back. Copp has been outstanding, he’s had a huge impact in the playoffs, scored some big goals, set up some others and the Rangers probably don’t make it to the third round without him. The Rangers kept all of their prospects at the trade deadline and so they can afford to lose this pick, especially since they are also going to make a big run at keeping Copp.
