Rangers sign second round pick Adam Sykora

The Rangers have announced that they have signed 2022 second round pick Adam Sykora.

From the Rangers: “Sykora, 17, was selected by the Blueshirts in the second round, 63rd overall, of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The Piestany, Slovakia native played the majority of his 2021-22 season professionally with HK Nitra in the Slovak Extraliga, recording 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points in 46 games. Director of Player Personnel and Director of Amateur Scouting John Lilley said of Sykora, “Adam Sykora’s motor is outstanding, he just doesn’t stop working, highly competitive. I’d almost classify him as an overachiever. He made the Men’s World Championship team, didn’t play the first few games and then found his way onto the team and got better as the tournament went on. Along with his skills, I don’t want to take anything away from his skill set and ability to skate, but he’s definitely a high character, hard working player.” (NYR)

On if he sees some Brad Marchand in Sykora, Lilley said “he has some of that in his game, for sure. He’s highly competitive, he’ll get in people’s faces. That is a great role model for him to have, if he can even become close to Brad Marchand I think we’d have a succesful draft. It’s good for him to look at Brad Marchand and try to play that way.” (NYR)
