Gerard Gallant met with the media following the loss in Washington and said (NYR):
- Any word on Lindgren, “no…day-to-day, we’ll know more tomorrow.”
- On the hit on Lindgren, “bad hit, dirty hit. The guy has no chance to protect himself, disappointed it wasn’t a penalty, five minute major, but for me it’s a cheap hit….and I like that hockey player, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a bad hit for me.”
- On Kuznetsov and Chytil, “I guess it was a slash. They looked at it and said it was a slash…move on.”
- On the defense, “the defense was awful tonight, defensively we were awful. We gave up those scoring chances, I mean how many odd-man rushes, how many breakaways and we were more focused on trying to score goals than defend some goals and gave them way too many chances. And they are a talented team, they got some skill and talent and will take advantage of those chances. I’d like to say that our goaltending wasn’t good, but their chances were really good.”
- On the second period, “It fell apart in the second. Again, we tried to force plays in the offensive zone, turned pucks over and you can’t keep giving good teams odd-man rushes like that. I don’t know what the number is, but it’s a high number….definitely the worst this year.”
- On going with Halak for the third period, “giving the other guy a break. We’ll make a decision for tomorrow. It wasn’t the goalies fault, trust me, it was more the team, it was all the team.”
- Did you get a sense that the players were just waiting for somehing to happen, “I don’t, honestly, I don’t, but it sure looked like something was going on because we didn’t play the game we needed to play.”
- On the Kravtsov trade, “I just heard about it now, I didn’t know about it during the game. It gives him a fresh opportunity. He was a good kid, came here and worked hard everyday and it’s just an opportunity for our team. Kravy is moving on and I wish him nothing but the best because he really worked hard and tried this year and we just couldn’t find a spot in our lineup for him.”
- How hard is it to reset with another game tomorrow, “I hope it’s easier, when you get your asses kicked like we did today, hopefully we’ll come back tomorrow and be ready to go real hard, sometimes it’s a good thing.”
