The Rangers have signed veteran forward Adam Erne to a PTO. (Dreger)
Erne, 29, is 6-1, 212lbs and has 41 goals and 50 assists in 379 games.
He had one goal, one assist and 68 hits in 24 games for the Oilers last season. He had six goals and six assists in 36 games for the Oilers AHL team.
Adam Rotter: There isn’t much downside to bringing someone in on a PTO and Erne is a veteran player who could find himself as a 12/13th forward. Jimmy Vesey came to the Rangers on a PTO two seasons ago and carved out a nice role. I don’t entirely expect that from Erne, but I could see Erne as a spare forward or someone like Jonny Brodzinski that goes up and down to Hartford. Sam Carrick is likely going to fill Barclay Goodrow’s spot on the fourth line next to Jimmy Vesey and Matt Rempe is certainly the popular pick to fill that last spot.
