Stats:

Adam Rotter:

  • And with that loss the Rangers are officially eliminated from the playoffs for the second straight season. They’ve effectively been eliminated from the playoffs for months but tonight’s loss makes it official.
  • As for tonight, they were considerably better than they were against the Senators but the Leafs are about as bad as the Rangers are. So it’s nice that they played better than Monday but they don’t get a win out of it, which, at this point, is probably more beneficial for draft lottery purposes.
  • After a bit of a drop after their hot stretch, the Gabe Perreault, Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere had a big game. Again, it’s a poor opponent, but you’d still much rather them play well and continue developing chemistry. Lafreniere especially continues to make really confident plays with the puck and that is hopefully something they can take into the offseason and next season.
  • It was nice to see Adam Sykora make his NHL debut. He’s played 201 games in Hartford but is still only 22. There is no reason why he shouldn’t play every game the rest of the way.
  • Vincent Iorio got back into the lineup and to facilitate that the Rangers had Will Borgen and Braden Schneider paired together and it wasn’t great. Neither Borgen or Schneider seems comfortable playing on the left side and I have to think that one or the other will get moved in the summer. Schneider is younger and would have more value but Borgen is already signed and cost-controlled.
  • They see Chicago on Friday in another bottom of the standings battle that will have draft lottery implications.
