Artemi Panarin likely to join the Rangers

12:18PM: Panarin’s AAV will be around $11.6 million per season, according to Larry Brooks.

11:46AM: Darren Dreger tweets that “all signs” point toward Artemi Panarin joining the Rangers.

Dreger said on TSN that his understanding is that Panarin is leaving money on the table to join the Rangers.





Dreger said that the belief is that Panarin’s AAV with the Rangers will be under $12 million.

Panarin has long been a target of the Rangers.

Reports over the last day have indicated that Panarin was choosing between the Rangers and Islanders and that the Islanders were presenting him the biggest offer.

Adam Rotter: It’s long been expected that Panarin would need to pass up bigger offers in order to join the Rangers and that appears to be what has happened. The thought for a while was that he was heading to Florida with Sergei Bobrovski but the Panthers either opted to just go for Bobrovski or couldn’t make the money work. The Islanders were long to be considered the darkhorse and team willing to pay the most to get Panarin and that appears to be what happened but Panarin is choosing to leave some money on the table to sign with the Rangers. It’s not a shocker that he is landing with the Rangers but the feeling was that if all things were equal he would go to the team offering the most money. Instsead Panarin passes up a higher AAV from the Islanders to join the Rangers and Jacob Trouba, Vitali Kravtsov, Kaapo Kakko, Adam Fox as newly signed/acquired players in their rebuild.
