2020-21 Rangers, Braden Schneider

Braden Schneider could be playing with Hartford until the WHL starts

12:38PM: Rangers first round pick Braden Schneider has signed an AHL-only contract for this season, according to Elliotte Friedman. (Sportsnet)

Friedman notes that Schneider will be able to play in Hartford until the WHL begins playing. (Sportsnet)

  • The AHL is planning to begin their season on Feb 5 and the WHL announced a plan to play a 24-game season, though no start date has been confirmed.

Schneider still has junior eligibility left and, in normal circumstances, would only be able to play in the WHL or NHL.

Larry Brooks wrote recently in the NY Post that the Rangers made an attempt to get Schneider signed to his entry-level contract prior to December 31 to prevent a “contract slide,” but were unable to do so.

Neither the Rangers or Wolf Pack have announced Schneider’s AHL deal.
