The Rangers have announced the active roster that they will use to begin the season:
Forwards (13): Pavel Buchnevich, Filip Chytil, Phillip Di Giuseppe, Julien Gauthier, Brett Howden, Kaapo Kakko, Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafrenière, Brendan Lemieux, Artemi Panarin, Kevin Rooney, Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad
Defensemen (7): Tony DeAngelo, Adam Fox, Jack Johnson, Ryan Lindgren, K’Andre Miller, Brendan Smith, Jacob Trouba
Ad
Goaltenders (2): Alexandar Georgiev, Igor Shesterkin
Taxi Squad:
- Forwards: Morgan Barron, Colin Blackwell
- Defense: Anthony Bitetto, Libor Hajek, Matthew Robertson
- Goalie: Keith Kinkaid
Barron, Hajek and Robertson can be called up and sent down to the taxi squad without waivers. Bitetto and Blackwell don’t need waivers to be called up, but would need waivers if they were sent back to the taxi squad.
Sent to Hartford: Jonny Brodzinski, Brandon Crawley, Gabriel Fontaine, Tim Gettinger, Anthony Greco, Adam Huska, Patrick Khodorenko, Darren Raddysh, Tarmo Reunanen, Justin Richards, Austin Rueschhoff, and Tyler Wall were all removed from the Rangers’ active roster.
Adam Rotter: None of this is surprising, though the make up of the taxi squad is interesting. The taxi squad players get to practice and travel with the main club, so Morgan Barron and Libor Hajek will still be around the Rangers day-to-day. It’s a team that looks a lot like the team that ended last season, except in a couple of key spots. Those spots, of course, being Alexis Lafreniere up front and K’Andre Miller on defense. It is an exciting group of players and a team that should be fun to watch, high scoring and while we hope that they win in the present, this is a team that has core elements that will be with the Rangers long after the rebuild is over.
