2020-21 Rangers Tom Wilson Situation

What David Quinn said after the game about Tom Wilson and more

David Quinn spoke with the media following the Rangers loss to Washington and said (NHL Media, MSG):

  • On Tom Wilson, “We all saw it, there are lines that can’t be crossed in this game and there is just zero respect for the game in general. You have one of the star players in the league now who could have gotten seriously, seriously hurt in that incident. You saw what happened, it happens time and time again with him and it’s totally unnecessary. You all saw what happened, it’s just zero respect for the game and the players and everybody involved.
    • Mika Zibanejad spoke after the game about Wilson and said, “I figured you should have some more respect for the game and for the players. I don’t honestly know where to start. It’s just horrible,  there is zero respect. I don’t know why I’m surprised, yea, it’s just horrible.” (MSG)

  • What can be done about Wilson and is Panarin okay, “It’s fortunate he’s okay, but the league has been dealing with him and this for a while. That is an answer for somebody else.”
  • On being eliminated from the playoffs, “just another level of disappointment really. Just didn’t get enough done this year, had some great moments, some great stretches, but just wasn’t enough.”
  • On the final three games, “We’ve gotta continue to compete and put forth the effort we need to put forth. These last three games you are going to carry with you for the rest of the summer and you wanna end on a high note. We just gotta keep moving forward, obviously we are going through a tough stretch right here and we have an opportunity to get out of it on Wednesday night.”
  • Can you point to anything tht went wrong, “It’s too soon to go through that, we just weren’t good enough in key times, we did face a lot of adversity, so did a lot of teams in this league, so that is playing in the NHL. We just didn’t play well enough for long enough to get in.”
  • On Kakko, “It was a great play by him and Laffy, they take advantage of a 2-on-1. I thought Kaapo had a good night tonight, I think he has made a lot of progress this year, his all around game has certainly improved defensively, his wall play has improved. It’s a hard league to develop in, but he’s done a good job.”
  • Did the Wilson thing change the game or was it something else, “Losing Bread for the rest of the game certainly was a big blow to us, we were gonna go on a 5-on-3 and not having him part of it, him and Buchie, we lost him and Buchie who are regulars on our 5-on-3, that certainly set us back on that and that goal at the end of the period, they get a goal with 1:40 to go kind of took a little bit of the wind out of our sails and they get the fourth one and we weren’t able to finish and hang in there and respond to that situation.”
