On The Jeff Marek show earlier today, Elliotte Friedman spoke about the Blackhawks, their open GM position and Jeff Gorton.

Friedman said “The GM candidate who was pointed out to me today that makes a lot of sense was Jeff Gorton. The reason was that he kind of stewarded the Rangers through their kind of fast rebuild and it wasn’t supposed to be as quick as it was, they got some lottery luck and he made some good moves and the other thing is, I don’t know what is going to happen in the future with Kane and Toews, I don’t know where this is going to go, but he’s the guy who dealt with the departure of Henrik Lundqvist, so he’s kind of gone through that. Jeff Gorton worked in a situation in New York where he had John Davidson above him, he’s kind of used to that structure. I do think that Jeff Gorton will be a serious contender there.” (Jeff Marek Show)

Frank Seravalli writes that Gorton has “always felt like the next man up for the first GM opening since his unceremonious firing by the New York Rangers in May.” (Daily Faceoff)

Darren Dreger mentioned Gorton yesterday, among others, as a possible candidate in Chicago and The Athletic did the same.

Many are predicting that Eddie Olcyck, who has strong ties to the Blackhawks, could become their President of Hockey Operations.
