Nemeth, Lindgren, Georgiev in Covid Protocol

7:35PM: Gerard Gallant spoke after practice and said (NYR):

  • How do you approach practice when you don’t know when you are playing next, “nothing changes, we just go out there and practice, whoever is there and do our thing. You get ready, prepare as best you can. We’ve missed our last two games, you just go out and practice and have some fun on the ice like we did today and be ready when the time comes.”

  • How concerning is it that you don’t know when you are playing next, “I really don’t worry about it, seriously. I come in here today and they tell us we have to delay practice because everybody had to get tested today, so a little delay in our practice and you just get ready to do the things you can do. I can’t control when they are going ot play or how things are going to work, I try to do my job as best I can and get our team ready to play when we are ready to play games. The NHL is doing the best they can, too.”
  • Is it a reset after losing 3 of 4 going into the break, “No, we were 6-3-1 in the last ten (laugh). I wouldn’t call it a reset, we lost to a couple of real good hockey teams and played okay in those games. Both games, I was hoping to play against Detroit and Montreal, they didn’t happen and nothing you can do. I think it’s been roughly ten days since we played and it’s no different for other teams, you get your team ready to play and bounce back and hopefully play real well early.”
  • Did the players have protocols to follow, “we’ve got protocols, try and be as safe as you can and do what you can do. I don’t know what all of those protocols are, I read the protocols of what I have to do and that is what we try and do.”
  • Any disappointment for the Olympics being off, “It’s obviously a tough decision, but the right decision. I think every guy is disappointed and every coach is disappointed, but I think everybody, to a man, would say it’s the right decision. What can you do?”
  • How are you feeling about the team, “I’m happy, like I talked about earlier on. We are not perfect, but I like where we are in the standings. The first 30 games are forgotten about now and you have to be ready to play. Whenever we are ready to play, whether it’s in the very near future or whatever it’s going to be you get your team ready to play those games and we’ve got 52 games left and it’s going to be a battle and you gotta be ready to play every night and work hard and get as many points as we can because if you look at our division it is real tough.”
  • Do you have feelings on allowing asymptomatic players to play, “No, that is not my department. There are a lot of people trying to do the best thing they can to keep people safe and that is the number one factor and the NHL and NHLPA work hard keep the players and staff safe and that is most important to me. You want to play games, everyone wants to play games, but there are protocols to go by and I’m on board for that.”
  • Have you had enough time to self scout about potential changes, “depends who I got. You check your lineup with what is going on right now, it’s a day-to-day thing. You look at the lineup when you get a chance to and when the trainer comes in and says that we are all ready to go then you do the best you can. We had a great number out there today so hopefully that continues, but I’m pretty much happy with how everything is going.”
  • Do you like how the systems are working, “Over the last while, maybe not the last 4-5 we haven’t been as good, but over the last 10, I like our record in the last 10, played some really good games in those games and we had a couple of games we didn’t play as well, but overall it’s been good.”

4:46PM: The lines being used today at practice are (Stephenson):
