- That was certainly some interesting end to the game with Igor Shesterkin and the concussion spotter. When I first saw Shesterkin on the ice I wondered about the concussion spotter, but then he didn’t get pulled….until he did. I think it was the right move in the spirit of what that rule is supposed to do, but they should have just pulled him off as soon as it happened. He made saves in the interim and maybe that is why he was allowed back so quickly. I never thought they’d let him back on, but there he was to start the shootout.
- Outside of all of that with Shesterkin, he was terrific again and the only Ranger who came ready to play. He made really big saves late in the third and in OT and, like many, many other times this season, their best player on the ice.
- I expected a slow start after two weeks off, but I didn’t expect it to be that slow. I didn’t expect it to take 12 minutes to get their first shot and for that shot to come from Ryan Reaves. They started finding their game in the last few minutes of the first and then they were the better team in the second and third. Boston is down two-thirds of their top line and they don’t have a lot of depth as it is, but defensively they played the Rangers well, but once the Rangers tied it seemed like it was going to be their game.
- Overtime was back and forth and both goalies were excellent, but the Rangers had a big advantage in the shootout. Once you got past the first couple of Boston shooters they had no one else that scared you and no one else that really forced Shesterkin to make a big save.
