Filip Chytil returns and Igor Shesterkin in net against Buffalo

12:30PM: David Quinn spoke this morning and said (NYR):

  • On the goalie and if Chytil is playing, “Shesty will play tonight and Fil is in the lineup and just adding a guy with that type of speed and skill set makes everybody a little bit better. We certainly thought he was playing the best hockey of his career before he got hurt, doing an awful lot of good things for us and it’s going to be good to get him back in the lineup.”

  • On Kakko, “Kaapo is expected to come off the Covid list today, so he will start the return to play protocol and see how that goes.”
  • On Panarin, “We talk to Bread, I talk to Bread daily and he has been doing some skating. We are just waiting day to day for him to come back.”
  • On Trouba, “he’s making a lot of good progress, we are expecting him back sooner than later.”
  • On Rooney playing with Chytil, “I just think Rooney has had an honest effort, night in and out. Chipped in offensively from time to time and he’s just an honest player and I think that line could use that. Obviously, Fil, with the injury he had, faceoffs might be a problem. I think Fil’s best position right now is center and we will see how he does taking draws and obviously Rooney has been pretty good on faceoff. If Fil is having trouble with the draws, we will have Rooney take them.”
  • On Julien Gauthier, “He’s done some good things night in and out, feeling more comfortable, playing more confident, that comes with ice time too, it’s the chicken or the egg theory, what comes first. I think he has earned that opportunity.”

11:42AM: The Rangers have announced that Filip Chytil will return to the Rangers lineup on Tuesday against the Sabres. (NYR)

Chytil has missed the past 14-games with an upper body injury that was slated to keep him out for 4-6 weeks.

Igor Shesterkin will start in net. (NYR)
